some diversions while the world is coming to an end

The cutest thing I’ve seen in a really long time. Animation by Mike Adair.

Got a tough decision to make? A creation by Self Taught Girl for you to cut, paste and use.

A hilarious video called Dance Monkeys Dance.

On my nightstand:
The History of Love by Nicole Krauss is written so beautifully and the characters are deep and unforgettable.
– I recommend buying this, reading it, then re-reading it immediately: Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.
– The Happiest Baby on the Block is my new bible.

    Tracy’s all: Die, mofo!
    I’m all: Hai! Karate!
I think that the three of us should strike this pose at every BlogHer. Next year Baby Superhero can join us in a carrier.

Thank you for the injection of sanity. I had just caught up on world news, and needed the reboot.
    Peace,

Gotta love that Harvey Karp! His toddler version is great too. If you have any swaddling queries, let me know; it really worked for us.
Great links and photos as always — those tomatoes made me smile — thanks!

I always smile when a new post from you appears in my news reader. But today’s is especially inspiring. The Mike Adair animation is a real treat – thanks for passing it on. And I suspect some of my hard-earned cash may be heading in the direction of Amazon too. Thanks for the recommendations. Cheers!

  15. Meg

ohhhhhhh aren’t you the cutest thing? I don’t feel that hip, and I’m NOT pregnant. Clearly I have some getting hip to do before I consider mommyhood. What a lucky baby.

  16. Sue

The Swaddling and shhh-ing techniques are a Godsend! That was my bible too! And not sure if it’s your “taste” but Jenny McCarthy’s two books are hilarious! (Belly Laughs and Baby Laughs)

  17. Marilyn

LOVE the photo. 🙂 I adore Grace…I’m not familiar with Tracey, but will check her out.

  18. victoria winters

OMG – I love, love, LOVE that animation. SO CUTE! NOW I know why I want a kid!
Also? That’s the 2nd or 3rd person to say that Eat, Pray, Love is good – I’ve requested it from my library and can’t wait to read it. 🙂

  19. Darla

Yay! I love “THe History of Love” I read it in one sitting– ok so I bought it in an airport at the beginning of a cross country flight, but still. One sitting.
Also, you are the cutest pregnant woman!! I passed your blog along to a girlfriend whose heart is aching for a child (they’re now in the process of adoption) and she found comfort in your shared experience, so thank you for being brave enough to write about it out loud.

  20. Jenn

    A~
You are so cute. I just love seeing you pregnant. I can’t stop being so happy for you and Matt and I smile each time I see you. I am so thrilled you are getting this experience.
I love Elizabeth’s book. I have been reading it and re-reading it for months now. I really feel like it’s helped me in my search for faith and God. I am so glad you shared it with us because it’s been a true gift for me.
I can’t wait to see more pictures of you and your sweet belly.
    Love,
    Jenn

    Love to You, BlooMinWOmban.

  23. Tiff

    Thanks for such great distractions!

  24. Angie

Another great read for new moms to be is On Becoming Babywise. Read it, memorize it, reread, apply. Probably the best book ever. The happiest baby on the block ranks up high too!

  25. jenB

i love the photo of you three fabu’ babes.
and if i was only allowed to read one book before my baby it would have been happiest baby on the block. it saved me and husband.
and you are a fabulous looking preggo lady.

  26. Alexandra

It is such a joy to see your belly photos! AND you recommended two of my very favorite books of the past year! The History of Love just blew me away.

  27. Myrtle Beach

    Maters dem is cherry ‘maters!

  28. Ivy

We used the Happiest Baby on the Block techniques with our baby and it was amazing!
We have given it as a gift at every baby shower since.
I definitley recommend the DVD too. It really helps you to understand the techniques.

  29. bluefaery

OK so your going to get a heap of unwanted baby advice starting from, well now. The best book I read (and used) was “One Hundred Ways to Calm the Crying” by Pinky McKay. It was so gentle and reaffirming and even had a chapter devoted to avoiding unwanted advice. I love that the main premise of this book is to follow your intuition – something our society seems to have forgotton about in this biomedical age. PS I’m guessing by the title of this post you have been to see “An Inconvenient Truth???

  30. amy

    You are so stinking cute!

  31. Sergei

The monkey video rules! It’s very much to the point.
And I don’t get it… Why is the World ending suddenly? I hope it’s not because you heard on the news about a bunch of people trying to blow a few planes, is it? Or is because of some war somewhere else? Well, the monkey video makes very clear – all these events only an indication that the World just carries on in a business as usual mode. So there’s nothing to worry about, it won’t end that easily!
PS. And yes, you look happy and wonderful with your child 🙂

  32. Amy

The David animation was so freaking adorable, I watched it twice!
Ps. You’re so stunning with your baby bump. Congrats again!

  33. nadine

Andrea, Have you listened to the audio book for Eat Pray Love? It is read by Liz Gilbert, and listening to her tell her own story is remarkable. Her voice is wonderful to listen to, and I often find myself playing it on my computer while I am puttering around the studio, sorting laundry, doing chores. I highly recommend it, enjoy!

  34. Vadim Strizhevsky

    Best greetings.
Your site and you will reach the big successes.

  35. tracey

A dear friend told me to get Eat,Pray, Love and I’ve been meaning to get it. Can’t wait to read it…or maybe to listen instead. Would love to have it read to me. Sounds like heaven.
There’s no two girls in the world that I would ever want to be Angels with than you and Grace. Because well, you gals kick some serious ass.

Keep up the great work on your blog. Best wishes WaltDe
