Imagine your favorite singer songwriter. Imagine listening to them over and over again on your CD player. Imagine singing along to them {inexpertly} and wishing that for just one day you could have that voice. Imagine that the next best thing to being them, would be to have them in your home singing to you and all of your friends. And wouldn’t it be great to have them for your husband’s birthday celebration? Imagine that…
Well folks, that happened to me last night. The Weepies played in my living room.
The Weepies are Deb Talan & Steve Tannen and if you give a little listen I think you will crush out on them as hard as I did. (Pictured above, you will see our amazing roommate and old friend of the Weepies, Malcolm Gold who accompanied them on bass.)
Happy Birthday Matt! and thank you Steve, Deb and Malcolm. Life doesn’t get much better than this…
P.S. We are already looking forward to continuing the house concert tradition by having our dear friend Martine Locke perform this fall. She is another artist that will blow you away with her talent. (If you are in the Bay Area and would like to be invited to this show, let me know!)
it was such a beautiful night with such beautiful musicians!
thanks again! and YES! I would love to be there for Martine!!
xo
Seriously, do you have the most amazing life sometimes? Ah, I’ve been totally listening to her all the time to (thanks jen gray) and ack! i want her to play in my backyard. That’s just awesome, awesome, awesome. So, glad you had a blast and enjoyed it all!
i would love to invited to the show!!
We just had our first house concert almost 3 months ago for one of our favorite bands “Girlyman” (check out http://www.cdbaby.com/girlyman). They were phenomenal and it is an amazing way to see live music. Not to mention that they were at my fave folk festival that I attend every year (www.falconridgefolk.com) and we were all proud of their mainstage performance…like new parents or something.
Wow, that’s a lot on house concerts, but I’m glad yours went so well…more people need to have them and support those awesome indy artists that need audiences as much as the Britney Spears’s of the world.
What great music! I am a new fan. I would love to be invited to a house concert.
I love it! Thank you for sharing.
wow they are great, thank you! i am going to buy a cd for my bestest friend and a cd for myself.

Happy Birthday Matt!!
If I lived in the Bay Area I definitely would love to make it. Seeing that I’m on the other side of the country – I guess I can’t. Thank you so much for the invite. Sounds like a rockin’ good time. I ‘m glad such a wonderful dream came true!!! It would be fun to meet you and hang out with you!!
Ooooh, send me the invite and I’ll go find my purty party dress. I officially move “to the Bay Area” next week!

SO strange that you should write about them because…
i read your entry and then was browsing the upcoming events at my favorite folk-rock club in boston (club passim) and who is playing there next month but the weepies! (who, incidentally, i had never heard of before this). very interesting!
wow! what an amazing woman you are! i came to your weepies party with stef (i live around the corner from you) and loved every bit. THANk you for sharing! this website & jewlery are incredible. i will be buying something as soon as i can save up! yes please add me to the martine concert too.
be well,
mati
The concert in your home sounds fabulous! I love the idea of you continuing the idea. Martine is wonderful, I wish I was able to attend such a cool event. You are so lucky, (and well connected too…) to get such talented people to come and play at your home. The night sounds like it was awesome. Oh….happy birthday to Matt! 🙂
Oh my goodness! I think I am in love! I am SO ordering this CD right now.
Thank you for introducing them. 🙂
I live in Florida and hope that I can figure out a way to order a Weepies CD! The music sounded wonderful!
Yes, totally crushing… I have a cousin who told me about them awhile back and I never got around to listening, and now just like you said, I am crushing hard! Just my type of sound! Thanks for sharing…

The internet’s extraordinary… I’m procrastinating from a writing task on a saturday night in melbourne, australia, and I end up via a stack of other blogs on this one… and there’s mention of martine locke who I went to school with a hundred years ago in adelaide… good god…
(i’ve changed too, martine…)
