Superhero Necklace meditation*

I’ve gone into the jewelry cave. The pre-holiday dash to make lots of Superhero goodies for the season. I’ll admit, I was a little worried this year that I might be over it. Won’t I finally be bored after nine years?

Turns out I still love making them. It might be the juicy colors I get to play with, or the simple act of using my hands that I love the most. Maybe it’s the radio stories I listen to while I work (audiobooks, podcasts, This American Life, Fresh Air….) or that I can chat for hours on the phone with a dear friend while I am whittling away.

Maybe it’s the quiet.

As I add some new and exciting projects to my plate, I will be shifting around my jewelry business to be more limited edition. I will have a specific number of pieces to sell twice a year (Holiday time and Mother’s Day time) and when they’re gone they’re gone. I am excited about this shift.

I’ve always had the intention that each necklace is a talisman, reminding the wearer of their courage, their wisdom and their joy… I send out this little prayer as each one goes out the door. Hoping you’re feelin it out there.

That’s great! Congrats on this new phase. I love my superhero “bullseye” necklace–and when it arrived, it was obvious that it was packaged up with thought and intention. I don’t have much jewelry I wear regularly, but this necklace is one item I love.
I thought you had some silver starbursts and came back to get one but they were gone…if you ever get them back, I want one! 🙂
FYI: The only problem I had with the bullseye is that the chain (which was very sweet and delicate) just fell off, in two pieces one day about 3 weeks after I got the necklace. I used to work in jewelry and so I know sometimes these things happen–I just put it on a sturdy box chain and it’s great. Wanted to let you know in case others had similar issues.

Just stop doing them, please! Ok? Can’t get one at the moment due to hubby’s evolving work situation but it will change soon and then I will be scraping, knocking at your door (well figuratively), sending emails… lol! Well that sounds all wrong:) But I will have one of your necklaces as I can see myself wearing it…
    Love
    Mel
(sorry, am sleep deprived due Dharma’s very inconsistent sleep pattern)

Meant of course: DON’T STOP DOING THEM
Gosh, am off to bed, I need sleep!

I wore one of my Superhero necklaces for each of my infertility treatments. I needed to feel like a superhero during those times, and that was one way to manifest that.
Now I wear my Earth necklace everyday. It goes with everything I own and can withstand my son’s kung-fu grip. He turns the beads in his little fingers and I get a lovely close-up view of his curious eyes. He thinks it’s as pretty as I do. Smart boy.
You make so much more than jewelry, Andrea. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

I love how you describe your beads, it is part of what attracted me to your jewelry and blog when I read about you in a Sark book many moons ago. Am glad you aren’t ceasing production as i decided a few weeks ago that this Christmas i would put one on top of my list. i really enjoy reading your insights and revelations and look forward to a mondo beyondo book, which must surely be on the cards!

My necklace (chlorine) was given to me on our wedding day seven years ago by my husband. We live thousands of miles away in England – it had arrived, beautifully wrapped, in the post. It *is* my talisman – and reminds me of a beautiful day surrounded by family and friends.

I had a feeling there was some magic in mine and always wear one when I need some extra courage. I keep my bullseye on all the time (meaning I sleep in it, shower in it, run in it, everything in it :0)
I’m glad you found a way to make this work for you and that you’re enjoying the holiday stuff.

I have had my “Passion” Superhero necklace for years now. It still makes me just as happy as it did year one :-).

  9. Adrienne

I love my Superhero necklaces (Chlorine and Joy) to death, and wear them whenever I can. I might have to get another one soon, I’m glad you’re still feeling the love! =)

Andrea, do you listen to TBTL? If you like This American Life and Seinfeld, you just might love it. I am addicted. Go to TBTL.net to get it over the internets. Happy jewelry making:)

I bought my superhero necklace a year and a half ago. My grandmother was on hospice, but I had some birthday money she had given me. I had wanted a superhero necklace for several years, but never splurged. This was clearly the time. I chose Joy because I wanted the necklace to remind me of all the joy my grandma had on her life and how much joy she brought to mine. Now, I think of her – her joy, love, strength and passion – everytime I put it on. It reminds me to be exactly who I am with full gusto, and to live in a way that would make her proud. I think that I do.
    Thank you, Andrea.

I think all of us who have ever ordered a Superhero necklace are feelin’ it! I got my Seaglass necklace a few years ago with some birthday money, and I feel the magic every time I wear it. (And of course, I get gushing compliments, too.) My best friend and I have given each other the bullseye and starburst necklaces too, and mine does feel like a talisman when I wear it. I love that you are still making the necklaces, Andrea. I think the limited edition aspect will make them even more desirable, if that’s possible.

OMG. the smushed chewing gum is hilarious!
    great illustration.
And I totally LOVE my necklace to, so powerful. 🙂

I love that necklace! (The one in the photo.) My mom saw me wearing it and loved it and I gave it to her. She recently died, and now I have it again. So it’s all the more wonderful now.

  15. Jennifer

I’ve got my own Superhero talisman, and look forward, shortly, to looking at the beads in my necklace and compare them against this photo to see what each bead’s name is…thanks, babe!! You’re awesome, as always.

  16. amy b.

got mine on right now. & it’s given me at least 6 years of superheroness that I feel each time I wear it (often). gosh, when was that cuisine on the green where we met so long ago? thanks for your colorful prayers girl! xo

  17. tricia

I love my joy necklace and yes i feel superhero powers every time I wear it:)

  18. Heather

Hi Andrea! I too *love* my super hero necklace, last night I was at a party and I spotted someone with a SH necklace on and I had to immediately approach her! SO your work brings people together too, how cool! Being new in my city I was so grateful to make a connection with her. Thanks!

  19. Laura

I feel a little sheepish saying this, but after reading your blog for years, I finally clicked that little ‘purchase now’ button and splurged on a superhero necklace. Never gave myself permission before- and it’s long overdue (I chose ‘joy’- in honour of what I am committing myself to by transitioning into a creative life next year). Thank you for making such gorgeous, almost edible, jewelry.
So very excited for you that you are taking on new projects and moving in new directions 🙂 What a cool year 2010 is going to be!
    xxoo

  20. Lisa

Oh, yes. I LOVE my Superhero necklaces! They most definitely have a special mojo!
I recently attended the World Peace Yoga Conference and chose my Bullseye pendant as the only necklace I took with me.
Thank you for spreading such good energy, joy, and beauty!!!
