This week’s delights*

Some delights this week:

Seeing Karen Walrond and taking her to the Edible Schoolyard… She gasped at every new plant and tree she had never seen before and snapped furiously with her camera. It was such a pleasure to share my little corner of the world with her.

Tasting a Cara Cara orange for the first time. It’s a cross between an orange and a grapefruit. Have you ever heard of such a thing?

Vivienne’s incredible photos and words on her blog.

The current Mondo Beyondo class. It just keeps getting better and better and I am so proud….!

Having lunch with the talented Samin and hearing her Mondo Beyondo story.

Celebrating my dear friend Marcia and the launch of her beautiful new book: The Tablehopper’s Guide to Dining and Drinking in San Francisco. I had the honor of taking her author photo which turned out so well.

Meeting one of my heroes, Heidi Swanson and getting a photo with her. Total Mondo Beyondo moment for me.

Going to my friend Sasha’s on the rooftop of the SF Moma with Ben. Finding him flirting with two beautiful young women and giggling to myself, then returning a few minutes later to find him wrapped around one of the girls’ ankles and licking her calves! This kid has some serious moves! 🙂

Finding out Ben’s MRI was all clear. Also, discovering that he is not allergic to anything at all. (This shocked me, I was sure he had celiac, but that’s another story)

Hiking in Sunol Regional Wildnerness and seeing the wildflowers in bloom. I haven’t been this blissed out in a long time.

Andrea, soooooo relieved to hear that Ben’s MRI is sweet and clean and clear. He is such a precious one. Watching him from your tummy to now with all of his insane cuteness. He is just Cute-ville. What a fortunate fellow to grow up with such a magnitude of wondrous pictures documenting his very life. (And with so many of us watching and wishing him/you/hubby well.)
Thank you for sharing your interesting, artsy, exciting, colorful, purposeful life with us. I miss you when you’re not “on” for too many days.
Also, send me good vibes. I misplaced one of your Superhero necklaces I purchased from you years ago and I know it’s being all mysterious and hiding from me. It WILL turn up, dagnabbit.

    Andrea,
If you think he may have Celiac, you should be in touch with Alison St. Sure: Surefoodsliving.com. She is an absolute expert.

So glad to hear the good news about Ben! Another gorgeous flower shot too! I did email you about the other photo too.

  14. Andrea

So glad to hear little Ben’s MRI was clear!
Perhaps you know, but there is a high percentage of false negatives when testing for celiac via blood test. (There is also a saliva test you can take that is more accurate than blood work. Feel free to email me if you want more info.)
You could always do a gluten-free challenge with him for two weeks, and see if he has a reaction when he goes back on gluten.
Best of everything to you and your lovely family, sweetie!

  15. Micheline

    Well deserved, I’d say.

Great news all around! I’m so glad about Ben’s MRI and all the wonderful news!
If you still have a tiny mama voice in there that suspects food allergies (or at least intolerances) as a part of the puzzle, you might want to hook up with a knowledgeable naturopath and do IGg allergy testing. Most doctors do the IGe RAST testing that gauges immediate allergic reactions to things, but IGg tests show the slower immune responses to allergens. Unfortunately, most traditional docs will not order the IGg test nor do they believe it is relevant. I am in the middle of researching this for my child who I suspect has some allergies that are not showing up on the peds test. In her case it’s related to sensory integration and some eating issues and not seizures, but I thought I would throw it out there in case.
    all the best.

yay to ben’s news! yay to licking ankles..hehee. yay to all these lovely photos! and a big yay to cara cara oranges…they are my favs!

  26. Ella

To be clear, celiac is NOT an allergy – it is an autoimmune disease and the testing is different than allergy testing. You may have had both tests and just not mentioned it explicitly, but I thought I’d throw that out there just in case.
