Storybowl

Let’s connect in real life, shall we?

During my writing class last year, we read a poem called The Bowl. Although we were supposed to be writing, my mind wandered into a daydream instead. I saw a small group of women seated around a table. There were bowls of beautiful food and in the center of the table was a bowl of story prompts.

Storybowl. I heard the word enter my mind.

A few months ago, I made my vision real. My dear friend Laurie hosted it with me and we each invited a handful of women to come eat food, drink wine and share stories.

The vision was simple — a way to bypass the small talk and connect in real, deep and rich ways with women in our community. This wasn’t a place to perform, but a place to share. No pressure for the stories to be spectacular, just a beautiful way to allow people to share the treasures inside them. It was one of my favorite nights of all of 2012.

Are you craving real-life connection? (me too!)

If you live in the Bay Area, please join me for an intimate gathering (no more than 10 peeps!) in Berkeley.

This sounds AWESOME! I’ll be in Ohio celebrating my mama’s 75th b-day. But maybe you’ll have another one down the road. Great idea and I love the art/logo! 🙂

    Wow… I wish I lived closer!

  3. moyra

I would so be there…. only I do live rather too far far away. maybe one day I can coincide a trip to the states with a trip to storybowl.

  4. Kimberley McGill

If I lived a bit closer I’d be there! This sound deliciously awesome!!

Hmmmm, I already know I am being called up the coast of CA, but this just makes me want to move to Berkeley! Not that it’s going to happen. 😉
    Sounds devine. Have a blast!

When the email came through advertising this, I even thought of ways I could possibly get from NZ to California. 🙂 Maybe one day. I am sure it will be as fabulous as it sounds.

I hope all who attend enjoy and are touched by the ladies they will meet. If only you were closer to Montreal, Canada!!

  8. Serena

This is an absolutely amazing idea – please make it national! I will help!

Like Moyra, I’m in Europe – too far away ! Wonderful idea though – maybe Moyra and I could organise our own StoryBowl in England (with full credit to you, of course!) ? Like TED, it’s an idea worth spreading!

In my dreams, you decide to have another of these and I manage to come, and this all happens within the next month and a half, before I move back home. 😀 Oh, and I also win the lotto.

Just sent this out, we’ll see what the angels have in store for me…

    Hello powerful women.

I am here in the beautiful Bay Area at a “creative retreat” with Andrea Scher of the Superhero life blog.
I have been retreating with 20 women of all flavors from all over and sharing stories with them.

    I am already craving more.

Read the post below and tell me if you’d be interested in joining me for a Storybowl.

If this speaks to you, I ask that you invite 1 other woman (who you may not even know well) who’s stories you’d like to hear or who you think may want to share some stories in community.

I have sent this out to a small group not with the intention of being exclusive but to expand beyond what is known and comfortable to me.
(If you have more than one woman you feel called to invite, please do so).

This may be a one off deal or quarterly depending on the energy of the group.

Once I hear back from you all we can work on logistics…early December?

No prep necessary, come as you are.

There is in each of us so much goodness that if we could see it glow, it would light the world.
    Sam Friend

    With big love
    Nina
