We planted a kiss this weekend! In honor of Plant a Kiss day! and Amy Krouse Rosenthal’s book by the same name. (You might remember we planted kisses last year as well)
My friend Lara and I got our kiddos together for brunch + a major lemon squeezing session.
At some point Nico got his hands on the garden hose outside. As you can see below, I took this photo from the safety of the inside of the house.
The kiddos then made a big sign that advertised free lemonade for Plant a Kiss day.
We set up shop and began giving away cups of free lemonade. Our first customer was Ben + Roan’s preschool teacher. She was so proud!
Turns out giving something away for free is disarming for folks. Many people tried not to look our way and when we would ask, Would you like some free lemonade? They wondered what the catch was. “The catch is love!” Roan exclaimed. So yeah, couldn’t have said it better myself. The catch is love!

omg – kiddos are so wise. they just cut to the chase, straight to the heart. love the free lemonade idea – gotta have my kids do that whenever summer decides to arrive (it’s, um, snowing here). xo
Love this so much – those bright smiles tell it all!
Squeezing love for all it’s worth! How terrific that the kids’ preschool teacher was first in that love line. Fitting.
Your photographs bring all that joy to life sweetie – it’s your gift. Love you.
Totally awesome, and those kids are beautiful : )
I’m with Laurie — your photos really bring this all to life. It makes me so happy to think of you celebrating Plant a Kiss Day in this way with your kids. It feels like this year a lot of our kids got involved. I love that we may have spread some joy for a bunch of strangers. But it is also so awesome that we got to create such joy with our kids. xo
My kids tried the free lemonade thing and we found the same result. Folks INSISTED on leaving money. We ended up putting out a tip jar. (The one time it did work was this past weekend at a garage sale. Guess people thought it was okay ‘cuz they were paying for other stuff?)
We’re a group of volunteers and starting a new scheme in our community. Your web site provided us with valuable info to work on. You have done an impressive job and our entire community will be thankful to you.
