candied poppies

So many beautiful sights this weekend:

– My dear, beautiful friend Jen who came to visit me from Chicago. Seeing the city through her eyes was such a gift. Every new view made her tear up with joy.
– The fabulous Jonatha Brooke in concert at the Fillmore.
– Sugar snap pea risotto and salmon with artichokes at Viola’s.
– The coastline beyond Point Reyes.
– A herd of elk grazing near the ocean.
– The gospel choir at Glide.
– A hand glider leaping off a high cliff above the water.
– The puffiest most delicious clouds against bright green grass.
– Icelandic poppies in Golden Gate Park.
– A baby goat named Moe who liked to chew on my superhero necklace.
– The “wrentit cam” at the Point Reyes Bird Observatory. My friend Grant set up a surveillance camera in a wrentit nest and you can watch the baby birds in real time on the computer screen. Amazing.

And finally, celebrating my friend Susan’s 50th birthday in the Marin Headlands. Happy birthday Susan!

i saw a really darling thing this weekend, too. a high school girl driving a car with “will you go to prom with me? written on the back window with bright red vinyl letters”,the girl glowing, bopping, happy as a lark, smiling on clouds in the front seat, oblivious to all around her! adorable! i love god’s scriptwriters!

  5. rachael

Those poppies deserve to be painted! I’m so glad you had such a great weekend. You & Jen seem like the excellent pair for a beauty seeking adventure, being such beautiful ladies yourselves.

speaking of seeing the city through new eyes, do you have any recommendations for this girl? I’m visiting San Francisco next month, for the first time, and I want to do some non-touristy things in addition to the touristy.

That picture of you on Jen’s page is really cute. Your hair grew fast or your hair just looked like it was short in your wedding pictures and your picture to the left.
    Really cute 🙂

One of these days I would love to see your San Francisco. It is unlike the memories I have of past visits to the city. So colorful and vibrant and gorgeous.
Or am I describing the hostess? xx
