PARK(ing) day

parking_14.jpg
PARK(ing), November 2005, SF, Canon Digital Rebel

Remember that really amazing park that my husband Matt and collaborators at Rebar made in a parking space? Well, since then there have been PARK(ings) created around the world. From Sicily to Glasgow, people are raising awareness about public green space in our cities.

Now it’s time for YOU to transform a metered parking space into a park too. Parking Day is September 21st, 2006! Imagine… a series of PARK(ing) installations sprinkled throughout downtown San Francisco… or one in your hometown! Please go to the Rebar website for more information.

Hi, I’m Andrea

On this blog you’ll be learning with me how to use our voices, share our creative superpowers and live life in full color.

As an artist, photographer, life coach + mentor, I’m redefining what it means to be a SUPERHERO — ‘cause in my world, it’s got nothing to do with capes, spandex or sidekicks and everything to do with tenderness, intuition & baby steps of bravery.

    This idea is FANTASTIC!!-
I would love to see it done in my neck of the woods..
Wouldn’t it be great to see these become permanent little parks-
I just love the idea of even teeny spaces in the urban scape, where feet can touch grass- mmmmn..
Ummn 21st of september is also international peace day I think..

Congratulations to the whole Rebar group. Making a difference in a beautiful way.

thats great! I live in the next city to Glasgow and it does have lovely parks but its very car orientated.

It would be quite rockin to see a number of those around SF!

This is great! I would love to see something like this in Toronto or Vancouver. I can’t wait to see what people come up with — small spaces are exciting. There is a guy on Salt Spring Island who makes beautiful, little, ornate doors (1 ft) and nails them on old growth trees — home for an elf or wood nymph!
Way to go Rebar! We need as many reminders as we can get, especially in the big city, that we need to conserve/protect/create green spaces.

I got a postcard from a local (Cleveland) gallery today and they were talking about the PARK(ing) project- I showed it to my husband and said “I already know about this!” Great project! There will be three spaces in Cleveland in September, hope to see them.
LOVE your site by the way, I love to visit for photos, advice, and links to great artwork. Thanks for the inspiration in so many ways. 🙂
