National PARK(ing) Day was amazing!

Off to a coaching course for the weekend, but wanted to share with you that PARK(ing) Day was a big success! As most of you know, my husband Matt Passmore and his collaborators at Rebar have been building parks in parking spaces since, well, last November. Thursday was National Parking Day and organizations and individuals built parks all around San Francisco and all over the world. There was a park in the mayor’s parking space at city hall, a lemonade stand in a parking space near Union Square and many other creative and wonderful temporary green spaces.

Matt and John Bela (co-founders of Rebar) were interviewed for All Things Considered on NPR. Some of you let me know you heard it! I’m so proud and excited for them… Give a listen here.

Hi, I’m Andrea

On this blog you’ll be learning with me how to use our voices, share our creative superpowers and live life in full color.

As an artist, photographer, life coach + mentor, I’m redefining what it means to be a SUPERHERO — ‘cause in my world, it’s got nothing to do with capes, spandex or sidekicks and everything to do with tenderness, intuition & baby steps of bravery.

I just sent this information to the Bike/Ped person – basically a transportation planner – at the City of Orlando. Man, I think it would be fabulous to do this in the parking space of our own Mayor!

I have been hearing about Rebar all over the place! It’s so exciting to have a very, very slight “personal” connection to the founders, because everyone is talking about this movement. In fact, a friend of mine in Australia just mentioned the Rebar movement on her blog!
Congratulations to Matt and John for an exciting new way to make our cityspaces more organic, and the attention it has garnered. I love the idea.

Andrea, this is the most wonderful urban guerilla project. I wish I had known about it earlier as I would have donated rolls of quarters to keep the parking meters ticking.
Bravo to you and the hubs. Superheroes, indeed.

    Oh, and! Oh, and!
Then, started wandering around the mighty Superhero Journal and found out about Zen teacher Norman Fischer’s blog. Holy one hand clapping! I’m a fan/non-fan (as the Zennies would say) of his work.
The wonders never cease when you’re a Superhero Journal reader.

    Congrats!
I know exactly where this picture was taken!
So cool! I am excited about the project and also happy that Rebar is getting well deserved press!

    I heard it!!!
It was funny b/c I was getting ready to go out for the evening and just had the radio on for kicks.
Then I heard Matt’s name and his interview, and it was all very cool.
Congrats on the good press for your hubs!

Ah! I can’t make the clip play – I’ll have to try it on another computer. But how exciting! To me, being on All Things Considered is the height of being famous and cool! Imagine saying, “Right before you were born, Daddy was on All Things Considered talking about his art project.”
Now THAT is cool. That would have inspired awe in me as a child (and quite a bit of schoolyard bragging).
    Congrats to all! Yay Matt!
