Things you ought to know:
1. I was interviewed on Brene Brown’s site yesterday and couldn’t be more honored!
2. There is still room in the final session of Mondo Beyondo for the year! Is it time for you to dream? Something just for you? You’ll be in really good company. It is in the pursuit of your dreams that you become the most alive version of yourself.
3. I’m making peace with social media! and having fun tweeting/facebooking/instagramming… Feel free to follow me.
4. I moved this blog over to WordPress recently. This also changed the RSS feed! To subscribe (or re-subscribe) to the RSS feed on this site, please click the orange icon next to my photo.
5. After answering Brene’s interview questions I actually realized that my least favorite word is eargasm. What’s yours?
6. (Park)ing Day is this Friday. Are you joining in the fun? My husband and his collective masterminded it, so I’m extra proud. After party at Rebar Friday evening.
7. Nico took his first steps! Here is a video of us trying to capture them.
8. This poem by Maya Stein (who teaches online writing courses) is gorgeous:
Maybe the camera crew is at someone else’s house,
a spotlight haloing over another’s fleshy story.
Maybe the mailman is delivering the good news
to your neighbor, or a different city entirely,
and you come home to a rash of catalogues,
the second notice for a doctor’s bill, a plea
from the do-gooders for whatever you can spare.
Maybe you haven’t cleaned your kitchen floor in weeks,
forgotten to nourish the front garden, spilled too much
coffee in your car, weaving through traffic.
Maybe you are 10 pounds heavier than last year.
Maybe your skin is betraying your age.
Maybe winter is ravaging your heart.
Maybe you are afraid, or lonely, or furious, or wanting out
of every commitment you entered with such vigor and trust.
Maybe you’ve bitten your nails down to the quick,
chosen your meals badly, ignored the advice of those
who know you best. Maybe you are stubborn as a toddler.
Maybe you are clumsy or foolish or hasty or reckless.
Maybe you haven’t read all the books you’re supposed to.
Maybe your handwriting is still illegible after all these years.
Maybe you spent too much on a pair of shoes you didn’t need.
Maybe you left the window open and the rain ruined the cake.
Maybe you’ve destroyed everything you’ve ever wanted to save.
If anything, believe in your own strange loveliness.
How your body, even as it stumbles, angles for light.
The way you hold a dandelion with such yearning and tenderness,
the whole world stops spinning.
I had one of those early crawlers/early walkers. Warning: he was into EVERYTHING as a toddler. Despite having twins, 99% of our babyproofing was because of Alex. If there was a way around it, he found it. He also learned very early to stack things and climb very very high. Our cameras lived on top of the fridge for a couple of years.
Enjoy! It was a great lesson at laughing at chaos.
Least favorite word: synergy.
I read your interview with Brene & it lit something in me that really needed lighting, or I guess I should say re-lighting.
These words resonated so deeply: “Turn on the f*cking faucet! Tell the truth, stop trying to make everything perfect, stop trimming and editing for what you think other people want to hear. Just let it out, let it be messy, let it be real.”
After reading your words, I had to jump on my own blog and spill a little. I quoted you & also posted that gorgeous self-portrait of yours [I hope you’re okay with that–I gave credit and linked :)]
There is such great release in sharing our Real, in telling it as it is (rather than how we want it to look)…it is a healing & beautiful thing. Thank you for reminding me of this important truth.
I love how you write/express yourself. Thank you for keeping it real & true.
Sending love to you today,
P.S: That photo of your little guy is seriously way too cute.
I just heart this entry for so many reasons!
And p.s. You were SO RIGHT about the Weepies show. I didn’t get a chance to say hi afterward (boo!), but oh MY was it just so fabulous! Best show yet! 🙂
That photo of your Ben is priceless.
That poem is also priceless.
I am going to immediately share it on my blog as well, linking back to you. (Again.) I already did once this week. Maybe I should just let you write all of my blog content.
We are on a similar path at the moment it seems.
I read your interview with Brene and there IS a tropical Nia retreat of your dreams!
I love this poem, shared it on my blog after seeing it on Tara’s blog. It is exactly what I needed to read today. Exactly the reminder I needed.
My least favorite word is can’t. I am learning I say it too often and I need to say I can more often.
My least favorite word (of the day) is: phlegm. Even though it has my beloved “ph” at the beginning.
I love the poem. It made me realize that I haven’t bitten my nails in months. And that it’s okay I just spent way too much money on a new pair of tango shoes.
I’m afraid to join the Mondo…college starts on the 20th…
Just love this photo!!! that’s it 😉
Love, love this poem – thank you. Least favorite word: hate.
That is my favourite poem of Maya’s. I just love it.
Thank you for sharing that poem. Exquisite.
Rachel Remen is speaking at the Mill Valley Public Library tomorrow night – you’ve written about her, and I thought you’d like to know!
I’m going to World Domination Summit in July 2012 because of you! I read about it on your blog when you were there, and it lit me up on the inside. I’m giddy with excitement and just.pure.joy! You have no idea who I am, but I am grateful to you for the light you are. 🙂
I am just DYING from the cuteness of that photo of Ben! Also, there is such power in Maya’s poetry…she is up there with Mary Oliver in my book…and I SO needed to hear that poem today. I’m grateful to you for posting it. I’m also grateful tonight for your amazing words as well. You are one of my inspirations. Love and light to you! Namaste!
Thanks for the beautiful poem. What a great way to start my day! It really spoke to my soul, my life.
“Moist” is the most foul word in the English language. IMHO of course. 🙂
I think the universe is trying to tell you something! This just posted from Studio Nia:
I saw our Park(ing) spot being built this morning on my commute into downtown Indianapolis today and it put a GIANT smile on my face 😀 Happy Park(ing) day!
saw mr.p on the channel 7 news this morning…looks like a whole lot of fun was had in the moment!
oh my dear Andrea, that poem was glorious. Thank you so much for sharing it.
Such an awesome photo on so many levels! Love Ben and his shoes all laced up but pantless…adorable!
