My plastic bread tie collection is coming along well! It is slow going but I love the sound of each plunk into the jar and how each color adds to the palette. It was inspired by Lisa Congdon’s A Collection A Day project.
The best part is that Ben will often come home from school, pull one out of his pocket and say,”For your collection.”
Now I’m thinking about what else I can put in jars that will delight my eye. Vintage buttons? Spools of thread? Beads?

Oh my goodness. I love this and have recently started doing the same thing after Dustin would come home from the golf course with wooden tees in his pocket. I love seeing them in the jar of my wooden spoons. I have also been putting bottle caps in jars. The possibilities are endless 🙂

Love this! I have a canning jar for beads, one for buttons and another for bits of ribbon.
What a brilliant idea. I collect bits and bobs for my daughter’s art supplies when she’s a bit older. I give her a sachet of baby food every other day so and keep the caps in an icecream container. Maybe a nice jar would make it look nicer.
Colored water beads – they are so colorful, and super fun. The kids will love them, and they are great for plants, stems of flowers, and just having fun with!

I love this! Just yesterday I started collecting the plastic tops to organic baby food pouches in a jar. I too was trying to think what other colorful items I could collect. I also threw in some plastic bottle caps but I don’t think I’ll get as much color variety there since we mostly drink the same brand of sparkling water.
When we were 8 years old, my friend and I used to collect these, too! Years later, I found them stuffed in an envelope when I was cleaning out a box in the attic.
