“Even a wounded world is feeding us. Even a wounded world holds us, giving us moments of wonder and joy. I choose joy over despair. Not because I have my head in the sand, but because joy is what the Earth gives me daily and I must return the gift.
—Robin Wall Kimmerer
It can feel transgressive to talk about tending our joy right now. Like, who are we to talk about beauty + wonder when the world is falling apart? But I know that beauty has been my medicine at the times when I felt the most despair. Just a simple walk around the neighborhood with my camera could be enough to pull me out from the dark and shadowy places.
Cultivating a practice of scanning for the good helps us build resilience. The more we do it, the more our brains want to do it again and again. This is how our brains are wired!
This month, join me and a beautiful pack of wonder seekers in the Wonder Lab. We will be cultivating a practice of finding beauty each day. Simple things. Everyday delights. I will offer prompts + thoughts and we will share what we find in the classroom.
Much love,
Andrea
